WPIX Drops 6:30 Newscast

Tribune’s New York CW affiliate WPIX is dropping its 6:30 p.m. newscast nine months after it launched.

The news was first written about on FTVLive.

For now, there won’t be any major changes behind the scenes. There’s no word yet what will happen to anchors Kaity Tong or Brenda Blackmon.

“We’re reconfiguring PIX11’s daytime lineup and making changes to the schedule to create a better flow into our evening newscasts,” a Tribune spokesperson told TVSpy. “Celebrity Name Game will move from daytime and return to its original 6:30 p.m. time period where it had great success. These changes will be effective Sept. 12. ”

WPIX relaunched the show in January with Tong joining Blackmon from weekends. Blackmon left WWOR in 2013 when the station’s news was replaced by Chasing New Jersey.

The Tribune station stopped and started the 6:30 p.m. once before in 2010.
