WNYT GM Retires After 44 Years

By Kevin Eck

WNYT vice president and general manager Steve Baboulis is retiring after working at the Albany, N.Y. NBC affiliate for 44 years.

Baboulis started out at the station as an intern and worked his way up the ranks until he was named gm in 1996. The station wished Babouliswell on its website, saying he’s been a “critical part” of making the station what it is today.

“To say he leaves very big shoes to fill is an understatement,” the station said.

TVSpy reached out to Baboulis, but we haven’t heard back yet. We’ll update this story if we do.

A tipster tells TVSpy Hubbard Broadcasting vp Rob Hubbard announced the move internally by saying the station was moving in a new direction. They added that Hubbard angered some staff by saying Baboulis’ retirement was a sad day but also a celebration.
