WNBC-TV’s latest attempt to remake its 5 p.m. time period–a slot that once held the groundbreaking news show “Live at 5”–has gotten off to a lousy start.
“LX New York,” the hourlong lifestyle program WNBC launched in the timeslot, has posted a meager 0.6 average households rating for the past three weeks of the television season–Sept. 21 to October 8–according to Nielsen Media Research. That represents a 40% plunge from the same period a year ago, when the hour was filled with entertainment show Extra at 5 p.m. and a newscast at 5:30 p.m.
WCBS-TV appears to have gained the most from WNBC’s turn toward lifestyle programming in the time period. Channel 2’s 5 p.m. news show saw its household rating increase 14% to a 4.0. WABC had a 5.2, down 5% from a year ago. WNYW-TV rose 7% to a 1.5.More…
