WNBC Reporter Says ‘I Was in Good Hands’ During Live Shootout Coverage

A journalism class can’t prepare you for what you deal with in the field, especially when it’s breaking news.

And for WNBC reporter Adam Kuperstein, not even years of reporting in New York City prepared him for what happened yesterday while covering a shootout in Jersey City.

Kuperstein was doing a live report on an active shootout between two suspects and police when gunfire rang out behind him. He quickly moved away and ran for cover.

“Thank you to everyone who checked on me. I was good in hands working two of the best photojournalists in the business. There are risks that come with this crazy job, but it’s nothing compared to those first responders who put their lives on the line every day,” he said on Twitter.

Six people, including a police officer, were killed in the shootout. It happened inside a deli in Jersey City. Cops have not yet released a motive.
