WMAQ Investigative Reporter Joining NBC News

Tammy Leitner is joining NBC News as a correspondent.

Leitner is an investigative journalist at Chicago NBC-owned station WMAQ.

“Tammy has done a terrific job the past two years with our NBC 5 Investigates team,” said Frank Whittaker, station manager and vp of news at NBC 5. “She’s been at the forefront of stories about domestic and international terrorism, as well the growing problem of internet hacking.”

As TVNewser reports, David Verdi, svp of News for NBC News Worldwide Newsgathering told staff in an email, “Her reputation for enterprising reporting and hard-hitting journalism is evidenced by her wide range of award-winning investigations, including an in-depth series on Agent Orange that triggered action by the U.S. Military as well as the South Korean government and her reporting on gun trafficking and organized crime at the Mexican border. Prior to her time at WMAQ, Tammy worked at WCBS in New York and spent eleven years at KPHO in Phoenix, AZ. A native of San Diego, CA, she graduated from UCLA and received a Master’s degree from Boston University.”
