WLS Makes Anchor Change on WCIU Newscast

By Kevin Eck

WLS anchor Linda Yu, who helped launch the 4 and 7 p.m. newscasts on WCIU, will now only anchor the 4 p.m.

“My goal was to launch this new primetime newscast on WCIU and help it find an audience; I think our team has accomplished that,” said Yu.

Yu’s last day on the 7 p.m. is Tuesday, April 5. She’ll be replaced by Cheryl Burton Wednesday April 6.

“Linda has done a great job getting the 7 pm newscast established and I thank her for her effort,” said vp and news director Jennifer Graves. “Like Linda, Cheryl Burton is one of the most recognizable and admired news anchors in Chicago and I have no doubt the audience will wish Linda well while welcoming another familiar face in Cheryl.”

Burton has worked at the Chicago ABC-owned station since 1992. She anchors the 5 and 10 p.m. news on WLS. Yu started at WLS in 1984.
