WLOX Anchor Retires After 27 Years On Air

Jeff Lawson has signed off from WLOX.

Lawson has worked at the Biloxi, Miss. ABC and CBS affiliate since June 1987. He was known in the newsroom as “our rock.”

He was diagnosed with Bell’s Palsy in 2014 and had been off the air since May of that same year.

“Somehow, even the words ‘thank you’ cannot even begin to express my gratitude, my appreciation to the people of south Mississippi,” Lawson said in a goodbye address where he thanked his colleagues and said he had hope his Bell’s Palsy would improve enough for him to return to work. He said he didn’t see his career ending this way, and then remembered a colleague who had passed away.

“It has been a pleasure and a privilege to have brought you the news for 27 years,” said Lawson. “To my successor, I wish you the best. And I think you’ll learn as I did many years ago that the people of south Mississippi are the greatest.”
