WLEX Anchor Suspended for Royal Baby-Related Comment

WLEX anchor Lee Cruse is off air in Lexington, Ky. this week after his on-air comments last week.

“Our anchor Lee Cruse exhibited a lack of judgment on air this week, and both WLEX and Lee regret this mistake,” WLEX vice president and general manager Pat Dalbey said in a statement Friday night. “The statements expressed were inappropriate and do not reflect who we are as a company. After evaluation of the situation, WLEX has made the decision to keep Lee off the air next week.”

Cruse co-hosts the show Live with Lee & Hayley.

Last week, he reacted to a story about a BBC radio DJ who tweeted an image of a chimpanzee and captioned it, “Royal baby leaves the hospital.”

When Cruse read the story on air he referred to the DJ as “my new favorite DJ.”

He later apologized after viewers came after him on social media.

The Scripps station took action late last week.
