WKYC’s Jim Donovan Named 7 p.m. Co-Anchor

By Merrill Knox

WKYC sports anchor Jim Donovan is adding news anchor to his responsibilities, as he takes over as co-anchor of the 7 p.m. newscast.

The announcement is the most recent talent shuffle at the Cleveland NBC-affiliate. After longtime anchor Mark Nolan decided to leave the station, 7 p.m. anchor Chris Tye was announced as Nolan’s replacement on the morning newscast.

Donovan, who replaces Tye, will continue to do sports on the 6 and 11 p.m. newscasts, which will be anchored by former CBS News anchor Russ Mitchell starting next week.

“I’m happy to take on a new challenge,” Donovan, who will co-anchor the newscast with Robin Swoboda, said in a statement. “We’re going to do some interesting and different things with the 7 p.m. show.”

Donovan returned to WKYC in September after a successful bone marrow transplant as part of ongoing treatments for chronic leukemia.
