WJXT Chief Meteorologist Hospitalized

By Andrew Gauthier

George Winterling, who has been chief meteorologist at WJXT for 47 years, is in the hospital after falling ill on Wednesday night.  According to the station, Winterling’s family is not yet ready to release details of his condition.

“George is so important to this station, our community, and many of you,” WJXT vice president and general manager Bob Ellis told viewers on Thursday.  “Members of our staff have visited his family this morning. His wife Virginia and their children and grandchildren want everyone in Jacksonville to know how much they appreciate your prayers and get well wishes. We will provide updates on how George is doing as soon as they are available.”

Although he remains WJXT’s chief meteorologist, Winterling stepped back from daily forecast duties two years ago.
