xenia_twp_axJamie Simpson, chief meteorologist at Dayton CBS affiliate WHIO, is hospitalized and facing criminal charges after a single vehicle accident Thursday. According to the station, the anchor’s car crashed through a fence and struck a tree just after 1:20 p.m. Simpson faces a charge of operating a vehicle while under the influence:

No one else was in the car or was injured.

Formal charges have not been filed, but Simpson was ticketed at the scene before he was transported to the hospital.

“We are waiting for more details from the accident investigation, but our main concern right now is Jamie’s health,” said David Bennallack, Senior Managing Director of Content for Cox Media Group – Ohio. “Due to his condition we expect that it will be a few days before we can talk with Jamie in detail about what happened.”
