And WHDH executive producer Mike Fahney penned a letter to himself about his experience coming out as a gay man in his 30s. He posted it on Facebook today.

You don’t realize this right now – but you are about to change your life.

You’re hiding a secret. Hiding who you are. And it’s time to be honest with everyone you know. It’s time to be your true self. No matter the cost. And it may seem like the biggest challenge you’ve ever faced. And to be honest, it probably is. But don’t worry. You are stronger than you’ll ever realize.

Fahey continued to talk about how he would cry on his drive to work, stopping at the exact moment he knew he could cover the tears so no one would know anything was wrong.

But one day, you’ll find your voice. Your courage. Your confidence. Your parents won’t cry tears of sadness, but tears of joy. Your dad won’t even miss a beat. He will just go back to cooking dinner in the kitchen. Your friends who have loved you for you – will become your family. They will be everything to you. They will hold you up when you struggle. They will remind you that you are not a horrible person despite what some people will say.

Fahey goes on to say life will get easier once he decided to live authentically.
