WHDH Cameraman Admits Following Jurors, Banned from Courthouse

The Boston Globe reports a WHDH photographer has been ordered to stay out of the courthouse during the Aaron Hernandez trial, after he admitted he followed a bus carrying jurors.

“There was no intent by WHDH to undermine the court’s order or to undermine the deliberations of the court,’’ said Supreme Court Judge E. Susan Garsh. The Globe reports WHDH can still attend the trial, but with other personnel.

Garsh said the cameraman had “intended to go to a location where the jurors would be” and, as a result, the camerman “cannot come into this building” until after the trial concludes.

The 16-year veteran camerman briefly testified that he knew that the jurors were boarding a bus at the conclusion of each day’s testimony and were then driven to a parking lot away from the courthouse, where they parked their cars.

He said that on Wednesday he spotted the bus leaving the courthouse and concluded it would give his station a potential competitive advantage if they knew where to send reporters to speak with jurors after a verdict is reached and they are dismissed by Garsh.

He said he was not ordered to follow the bus by his superiors, but “I knew that they felt that was good information to have.’’

Asked by an attorney for Channel 7 whether he planned to try and speak with jurors, he said, “No. I know that’s forbidden.’’
