WHAM Photographer Dies Not Long After Station Profiles Him

Carl Shuba, a photojournalist at WHAM, the ABC affiliate in Rochester, NY has died. Shuba, a 29-year WHAM veteran photog died not long after the station profiled him for their Bright Spot segment.

Shuba, who turned 52 on Thursday, had been battling cancer.

“As we do most every night around the end of our 6 p.m. broadcast, we aired a Bright Spot,” a story on the station’s website reports. “This evening, we wished him a happy 52nd, but we also told him he and his family were in our thoughts as he battled a serious health condition. Later Thursday evening, we received word that Carl had passed away shortly after his Bright Spot aired.”

Shuba joined WHAM in 1988. The flag in front of WHAM is flying at half-staff today in his memory.
