WGN Tops for Cubs Rally Ratings

By Kevin Eck

More Chicago viewers turned to WGN to watch the station’s coverage of the Cubs’ celebration than any other station in the market Friday morning.

While five million people were downtown for the parade and rally celebrating the Cubs historic win, nearly 216,000 people watched the event on WGN, making the Tribune station number one in Adults 25-54 and in Households from 9 a.m. to 2:15 p.m.

WGN – 5.3/2.5
WLS – 5.0/1.3
WFLD – 3.5/1.8
WMAQ – 3.1/1.3
WBBM – 1.9/0.6

The Cubs and Tribune have a long history in Chicago. The media company, which had owned the Cubs since 1981, sold the team in 2009 to current owners the Ricketts family. Tribune, which still holds 5 percent of the team, bought the Cubs and Wrigley Field from candy maker Wm. Wrigley.
