Atlanta’s WGCL has named a replacement for popular weather reporter Dagmar Midcap, who resigned last month. According to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the CBS-affiliate has hired Markina Brown from KTLA in Los Angeles.

Brown had been with KTLA since 2008, serving as the station’s primary meteorologist before becoming available a few weeks ago. Speaking about the move, WGCL news director Steve Schwaid emphasized Brown’s credentials. “She has a great personality and is a true weather geek. She has two meteorology degrees.”

The addition of Brown will get WGCL’s weather team “stabilized,” as Schwaid put it. Midcap had been coping with the recent death of her boyfriend and eventually decided to leave the station to focus more on her personal life. “I can’t stay here. It’s too difficult for me to move forward,” she said when offering her resignation in September.
