WFTV Veteran Bob Opsahl Leaves 11 p.m. Newscast

It’s the end of an era at WFTV. Veteran anchor Bob Opsahl, who viewers have seen on the 11 p.m. newscast since the mid-1980s, has left the station’s evening shift.

Opsahl, who began his career at the ABC affiliate  in 1978, will still anchor the station’s 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. broadcasts. He told The Orlando Sentinel‘s Hal Boedeker he was looking forward to the better hours. “After more than 25 years of working a night-side schedule, I’m pretty excited about having my nights open,” Opsahl said.

So what’s next for the evening news at WFTV?

Josh Benson will join longtime anchor Martie Salt, said news director Bob Jordan. “There comes a time when you have to prepare for the long-term future,” he said. “We don’t want to do it all at once or precipitously.”
