WDBJ Names Dan Dennison News Director

By Andrew Gauthier

Dan Dennison has been named news director of Roanoke’s WDBJ. Dennison, who has previously lead the newsrooms of KSBY in San Luis Obispo and KHNL-KFVE in Honolulu, has recently been working in a media relations job in Honolulu since being laid off by KHNL-KFVE in late 2008.

“I got ‘riffed,'” he told The Roanoke Times recently about losing his job at KHNL-KFVE, using a term for “reduction in force.” “I had to downsize the staff, and right after that, I got downsized.”

Dennison’s first day with WDBJ is set for June 20th. He is succeeding Amy Morris, who was cut loose by the station in March following the CBS-affiliate’s less than stellar performance during February sweeps.

In leading WDBJ’s news department, Dennison says that he will look “to find new and better ways of providing news to viewers, especially on multiple platforms offered by ever-expanding digital programs.”
