WCVB Raises $350,000 for Gas Explosion Victims

By Stephanie Tsoflias Siegel

In September, a series of gas explosions rocked three communities just north of Boston, destroying 25 homes, killing one person and injuring others.

Yesterday, WCVB, the ABC affiliate in the market, held a day-long telethon to raise money for the victims.

Relief Fun 5: Explosion Recovery raised more than $350,000 for the Greater Lawrence Disaster Relief Fund. The money will provide funds to families in need this holiday season.

“WCVB Channel 5 has long been dedicated to serving the community, and we are honored to have partnered with the Essex County Community Foundation on yesterday’s ‘Relief Fund 5: Explosion Recovery’ telethon to help raise more than $350,000 for our neighbors who are still in need of so much,” said Bill Fine, WCVB President and General Manager. “We all extend our deepest gratitude to our very generous viewers and community partners for joining this effort to raise funds for those in the Merrimack Valley who remain in dire need of help, especially during the holiday season.”

Viewers are still encouraged to donate online at WCVB.COM/recovery.
