In Maine, they consider Bruce Glasier an all-star, a Hall of Famer. “Bruce was a major reason many young people in Maine chose to be sportscasters, or go into broadcasting,” the station’s Lee Goldberg said in a story on Glasier’s death, at 69, after a battle with lung cancer:
Bruce started working for WCSH6-TV back in 1977 and was the face of local sports in our state before retiring in 2012. For 35 years Bruce brought events from our back yards into our living rooms. Sports Overtime, The Varsity Club, and the 5th Quarter, were just some of the long running staples of the nightly local sportscast that made Bruce the Hall of Fame broadcaster that he was.
Glasier retired in 2012. Former colleague Bill Green told the Bangor Daily News Glasier’s impact was as much behind the scenes as it was on the air:
Glasier was the “father of the newsroom. He cared about everybody. He would take people in who had problems and would listen to them, give them a huge hug or tell them a joke. He was extremely well-liked.”
