WCMH Anchor Sets December Retirement

By Kevin Eck

Columbus anchor Cabot Rea says he’s retiring in December. The NBC affiliate WCMH aired a tribute to the longtime, along with his announcement on last night’s 6 p.m. newscast.

Rea told the Columbus Dispatch he’s been thinking about “the move for a while. ‘For a lot of reasons, it’s time for me to move on.'”

He started at NBC affiliate in 1985 as a weekend sports anchor and feature reporter. He was a music teacher and professional singer actor before that.

Rea and Colleen Marshall have enjoyed one of the longer tenures as co-anchors in Columbus television. They began to share the anchor desk in 1992.

Rea said he and his wife, Heather, who recently retired as a teacher for the Big Walnut School District, plan to spend more time at their property in the Hocking Hills and traveling.
