When weather on television evolved from real maps to green walls and clickers, the weather computer became a very important piece of equipment. And from time to time, they fail to cooperate. That happened to Dave Williams, chief meteorologist at Charleston ABC affiliate WCIV when the weather computer locked up, leaving Williams with one map to talk over–a map of watches and warnings in the Northeast. Not helpful.
So with the help of a news anchor, some script paper, and a Sharpie, Williams got some crude (but cute!) maps–even a five-day-forecast, which, originally incorrect, was fixed on the fly. I’d argue this is engaging enough to become a regular feature, no?
