WCAU is apologizing for giving a new hire credentials she didn’t have.

Monday, the Philadelphia NBC-owned station told us it had hired meteorologist Erika Martin.

Scott Jones over at FTVLive checked to see if Martin was certified with the American Meteorological Society. He said he couldn’t find her listed on the society’s website.

We asked WCAU about it. Here’s what they told us.

“Erika Martin is a Certified Storm Spotter for the National Weather Service and in her appointment press release we misidentified her certification,”” WCAU told TVSpy. “She is in the process of completing her certification to become a certified broadcast meteorologist from the American Meteorological Society (AMS). We apologize for the error.”
