WBND Reporter Arrested on Two Counts of Sexual Battery

By Merrill Knox

Ryan Klund, a reporter at WBND in South Bend, was arrested Thursday on two criminal sexual conduct charges.

According to documents filed Wednesday in St. Joseph Superior Court, Klund is charged with two counts of sexual battery, both felonies, against a woman at a party in South Bend on April 29. The woman reported the incident happened after she and Klund, along with a group of their acquaintances, had been drinking at a friend’s residence and at a local bar.

According to her account of the incident, she told friends she felt she may vomit and she went into the bathroom at the apartment. Klund came into the bathroom uninvited and began “rubbing the victim’s exposed genital area with his hand … and kissed the victim’s bare buttocks.” Klund left the bathroom after the woman yelled at him to stop.

The woman stated she did not consent to these acts. She said Klund had been making advances toward her throughout the night, despite the presence of her boyfriend.

Klund’s bond was set at $25,000.

WBND reported on the arrest during Thursday’s newscasts. Although he was on the air as recently as Monday, his bio has been stripped from the station’s website.

The station did not respond to TVSpy’s request for comment.
