WAVE Anchor Dawne Gee Recovering from Surgery

Gee WAVEDawne Gee, a longtime anchor at Louisville, Ky., NBC affiliate WAVEhas been through a lot over the past few months. Back in October of last year, she had half her kidney removed due to cancer. Then, in February, doctors found a mass in her stomach.

On Saturday, Gee had the mass removed. According to The Courier-Journal, the surgery was a success:

It very much looks like something that is not going to be a big deal,” Baptist Health Louisville surgeon Richard Pokorny told Gee’s family and friends. “If it is not completely benign, it looks like it will be a low grade tumor and this is all we will have to do and she will be done.”

Gee has suffered from a variety of ailments over the years, including benign brain tumors, lupus and rheumatoid arthritis.

In February, someone started a GoFundMe account in Gee’s name, without her consent. It was later taken down.

Gee is expected to be off the air for the next few weeks while she recovers from surgery. If you’d like to send Gee your good wishes via social media, you can do so here or here.
