Washington. D.C. Loves Its Meet the Press

By Kevin Eck

NBC political show Meet the Press has helped NBC-owned station WRC go from almost-worst to first in its time slot in the D.C. market.

For a political show, this is a company town and compared to Q1 last year, the show hosted by Chuck Todd, has gone from number three to number one in the demo for WRC. Meet the Press last trailed This Week on ABC in March 2015.

Sunday, WRC dominated the other locals by drawing 162,00 viewers. CBS affiliate WUSA got 62,000, ABC affiliate WJLA had 20,000 and Fox-owned WTTG pulled in 48,000.

The 171 percent advantage over ABC is the largest since Tom Brokaw sat in and interviewed Senator-and-President-Elect Obama in 2008.

Meet the Press with Chuck Todd has averaged over 100,000 viewers for 12 straight broadcasts.

Our sister site TVNewser reports that nationally, Meet the Press finished No. 1 among adults 25-54 with 1.1 million viewers. Face the Nation on CBS was No. 1 total viewers.
