WALB Says Goodbye to Longtime Photographer

By Kevin Eck

Sam Smith retired from WALB on Friday after 55 years at the station.

Smith started working at the Albany, Ga., ABC and NBC affiliate in 1960. In that time, Smith said he cut his teeth shooting news stories about the civil rights movement and Martin Luther King, Jr.

“Sam never let ever-changing technology get the best of him,” said WALB anchor and executive producer Ben Roberts. “He’s an outstanding mentor who had a lasting impact on the lives and careers of countless young journalists who passed through WALB over the years.”
