WAGA Shuffles Morning Anchors to Free Up Mark Hayes for More Reporting

By Merrill Knox

WAGA will rotate in some new faces on its weekday morning show, which airs from 4:30 a.m. to 10 a.m., at least through the summer. The station will break up the hours of its morning broadcast with different anchors to free up Mark Hayes, who currently does the bulk of the anchor duties on “Good Day Atlanta,” for more reporting.

Hayes (pictured at left), who has been with the Atlanta Fox O&O since 2002, is currently on the air from 4:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. WAGA will cut his on-air time back by more than two hours, according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

With the line-up changes, Hayes will anchor “Good Day Atlanta” from 5 a.m. to 7 a.m. Co-anchor Guvir Dhindsa will not see her hours change — she will anchor the first two hours of the morning broadcast with Hayes, then the second two hours, from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m., with Hayes’ replacement, Buck Lanford.

Karen Graham, who currently helms the 9 a.m. hour, will also take over the 4:30 a.m. half-hour for Hayes.
