Violent End to Police Pursuit Shown Live in LA and Fresno

Viewers of two stations hundreds of miles apart got more than they bargained for Friday night.

At the tail end of the 10:00 p.m. news on both Los Angeles CW affiliate KTLA and Fresno FOX affiliate KMPH, the station’s aired live helicopter footage of LA police in pursuit of a man wanted for reckless driving.

The chase ended when the suspect’s Corvette plowed into a car at an intersection and ended up on a curb. After trying to drive away from the accident, the suspect stumbled out of the Corvette, walked around the rear of the car and fell to the ground.

“Game over,” said KTLA’s Micah Ohlman from the studio.”They’re taking him out.” Then after what appeared to be both the helicopter pilot and Ohlman realizing what had happened, Ohlman said, “Let’s pull out, Tim. I’m not sure if those were non-lethal rounds or not. But clearly they hit him with a whole lot of something as he tried to run from behind that car.”

KMPH took KTLA’s feed, but used their own anchor, Erik Rosales to describe the action.

Other LA stations also covered the chase, but either broke away before the dramatic ending or waited until their 11:00 p.m. news to cover the aftermath.

KTLA also posted the story on its website saying the suspect was treated at the scene and transported to a local hospital. His condition is unknown.
