After 30 years in the Providence market, veteran reporter Sean Daly is retiring from CBS affiliate WPRI. His last day at the station is December 31.

Daly began his career at Rhode Island ABC affiliate WLNE, where he worked as a reporter from 1981 to 1999. After a brief foray to Chicago in 1993, he returned to the Ocean State and joined WPRI in 2002, where he’s worked ever since.

“Throughout his career, Sean has been dedicated to being accurate and memorable. He has an ability to tell a compelling story, with context and perspective,” WPRI news director Karen Rezendes said. “Both viewers and Sean’s co-workers will miss his wit, wisdom, and commitment to local journalism.”

Daly told the Providence Journal that his immediate plans are to “chill and decompress.“ After that, he would be open to jobs in government or academia.

“Whatever might bubble up,” Daly said.
