Veteran Reporter Michael Williams Leaving Miami to Helm WPTV Anchor Desk

Michael Williams is leaving Miami’s WFOR to become an anchor at WPTV in West Palm Beach.

Williams is a veteran reporter with nearly three decades of experience in South Florida, including stops at WFOR competitors WSVN and WTVJ.

WPTV General Manager Steven Wasserman confirmed the hiring to The Palm Beach Post but the station has stayed mum about whether or not Williams has been brought on to succeed Jim Sackett, who has been the station’s marquee anchor since the 80s.

Sackett, 65, signed a 1-year contract contract extension last spring while the NBC-affiliate searched for his successor.
