Vanessa Flowers, anchor and producer for KOLN-KGIN, the CBS affiliate for Lincoln and Grand Island, NE, has announced she is leaving the station.

“This is a very very big decision for me,” Flowers told viewers alongside her replacement Abby Turpin on today’s Noon news. “As most of you know, I have paralysis on my right vocal chord which it more than likely is going to require surgery.”

Flowers has been off air since the beginning of the year after being diagnosed with the condition. She had been working behind the scenes, but told viewers she thought it was best to go ahead and get the surgery and focus on her health.

She started at KOLN-KGIN in November 2010. She has also worked in Birmingham, AL, Wichita, KS, and Evansville, IN, and as a field producer for MSNBC.
