Gannett’s USA Today has launched a new online dashboard that organizes the top news stories from the popular national newspaper.
It is worth noting that Newsdeck does not aggregate news stories from across the web as Google News does, for instance. Rather the interface is a collection of USA Today stories that link to individual article pages within USAToday.com.
As of right now, it appears that Newsdeck is being positioned only as a new, streamlined way to navigate through USA Today content–similar to what the New York Times has done with its Skimmer product. As Gannett is currently in the process of laying off 1,400 from its U.S. Community Publishing division, it will be interesting to see if Newsdeck begins to incorporate articles from Gannett’s extensive network of local and community newspapers.
