The recent blast of arctic air over much of the U.S. brought freezing temps and blizzard conditions. While most local stations sent out their teams to cover the storm with an eye on the dangers present, some had a few rogue agents who saw the humor in the live updates.
While one reporter showed the exuberance that comes with a fresh snow, another showed the ennui of being the only one outside in the freezing temperatures while viewers watched from inside warm homes.
In Iowa, KWWL sports anchor Mark Woodley (pictured left) pitched in to the help the news team cover the weather with a few live shots on Thursday morning. The station straight up said Woodley was not a fan of the frigid cold and later posted a story about “Mark Woodley’s Weather Rant.”
Woodley’s live shots were a combo of him dreaming about his his warm office to updates on his attitude. At one point he told viewers, “This is a really long show. Tune in for the next couple hours to watch me progressively get crankier and crankier.”
“I’ve got good news and I’ve got bad news,” he said during one live shot. “The good news is that I can still feel my face. The bad news is I kind of wish I couldn’t.”

Meanwhile, in Manchester, N.H., WMUR weekend anchor Troy Lynch (rihgt) chose another angle to show viewers what was happening.
Lynch’s romp in the snow was reminiscent of childhood snow days, for those of us lucky to have had one growing up. He showed himself doing wind sprints through snow drifts, making snow angels, having one-sided snowball fights and finding a proper place for his David Ortiz (Big Papi) doll to rest.
“Listen, I’m taking a break right now,” he told Amy Coveno who was back in the studio. “It’s been a really long morning building snow forts.
