Tucson’s KVOA Greets New Year with New Jobs

KVOA 4’s new president and general manager Bill Shaw has announced three promotions among the management team at the station.

Kathleen Choal has been named to the newly created position of station manager. (The last time KVOA had a station manager was in 1991 when it was tied to the sales department.)

Choal had been KVOA‘s news director since 2006. Her media career goes back 18 years. She has held newsroom positions as an executive producer, managing editor and news director in Las Vegas, Minneapolis, Atlanta, Houston and Denver. Immediately preceding her arrival in Tucson, she had spent two years with the police department in Surprise.

In the announcement, Shaw referred to Choal’s new position as a dual role being “instrumental for growth and journalistic excellence in news and will also apply her considerable talents to other departments as well.”

Taking up the day-to-day responsibilities of running the newsroom is Cathie Batbie, who had been the assistant news director. More…
