Tucson’s KOLD Uses Digital Subchannel For Breaking News Report

Now that we all have digital TV reception, it pays to check out what’s on some of those other channels.

The night of July 22 provided a good opportunity when KOLD News 13 went live for about 90 minutes on its secondary channel shortly after 7 p.m. to cover the three-alarm fire at the Friedman Waste Control Systems recycling plant near Prince and Romero roads.

Anchor Dan Marries was at the scene for the live coverage on channel 13.2 while viewers watching KOLD’s regular CBS prime time programming got news updates during program breaks on channel 13.1.

“I knew that when the digital change went into effect June 12 it would open new opportunities because everyone would be able to see the new channels,” said KOLD General Manager Jim Arnold. More…
