Tribune Co. Names Kersting COO of Broadcast Group

Tribune Co. on Monday named Jerry Kersting, an executive vice president at the media company, as chief operating officer of its broadcast group.

Kersting’s appointment takes effect immediately. It follows last week’s appointment of Gerry Spector as Tribune’s chief operating officer to oversee Internet, broadcasting and newspaper operations.

Kersting, who joined Tribune in April 2008, will work with Tribune Broadcasting President Ed Wilson in overseeing day-to-day operations of the company’s 23 local television stations, as well as the national cable channel WGN America and WGN Radio. Before joining Tribune, Kersting served as chief financial officer for the radio division of Clear Channel Communications.

Kersting’s appointment as Tribune Broadcasting’s COO will allow Wilson to focus more closely on revenue and sales companywide, Chicago-based Tribune said. Wilson has overseen broadcasting since early 2008 and was named Tribune’s chief revenue officer later that year. More…
