Tornado Destroys Nashville Station’s Helicopter

WTVF, the Scripps station in Nashville, Tenn., is down a helicopter.

The tornado that ripped through the area on Tuesday destroyed the helicopter’s hanger at Nashville’s John C. Tune airport.

“I’m not optimistic about what we’ll find under the rubble,” Lyn Plantinga, WTVF VP and general manager.

Plantinga says in her time at the station, a tornado hit once before in 1998, when she was a news manager.

According to Broadcasting and Cable, staffers at the station are “in shock.”

The National Weather Service issued a tornado warning for Nashville around 12:15 a.m. on March 3. There had been 22 fatalities reported by midday.
