Tom Cohen Named VP of Content at KCTS

Tom Cohen is joining KCTS, the PBS station in Seattle, as vice president of content. He begins early next year.

Earlier in his career, Cohen worked at Seattle ABC affiliate KOMO for 16 years. Most recently, he has provided media, technology and marketing consulting for various companies, including Microsoft, where he worked until 2007.

SEATTLE— KCTS 9 has hired Tom Cohen to join the station’s senior management team as Vice President of Content. Cohen is a highly respected production executive with a broad spectrum of media experience in all aspects of the industry.

“As KCTS continues to execute on its new strategic plan, Tom brings a wealth of experience in both television and digital content creation,” said Rob Dunlop, KCTS 9 President and CEO. “We are excited to add his leadership talent to our team.”

As Vice President of Content, Cohen will direct the station’s content production units, including broadcast, online and community engagement, as well as programming and distribution. He starts in early January 2014.

Most recently, Cohen has provided media, media technology and marketing consulting services for various local companies including Microsoft. He retired from Microsoft in 2007 after 14 years in management of Corporate Media Services; various business development, marketing and project management roles in the Microsoft TV product unit; and content development, acquisition and placement as a Senior Channel Manager for MSN.com. Currently, he serves on the board of directors for Benaroya Research Institute at Virginia Mason and co-chairs the Development Committee. Cohen has also served on the foundation board of Lake Washington Technical College, and worked for 16 years in various operational and management production and programming positions for KOMO-TV.

Cohen holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Washington. Married with two adult children, Cohen is an avid snow skier, hiker, private pilot, and TV watcher.
