Telemundo Names New Management at WZDC

Telemundo is ready for the FCC to approve its acquisition of ZGS and the company’s 10 Telemundo affiliate stations.

The group has already put new management in place at WZDC Telemundo, the Spanish station in Washington D.C., which is still owned by ZGS pending approval.

The group has announced Janette Luviano will take on the role as news director. She comes from WNJU, the New York Telemundo station where she was an executive producer.

“Janette brings a wealth of experience and energy to our news operation,” added Mike Goldrick, vice president of news. “Having successfully led a newsroom that served more than four million Hispanic people, our Spanish-speaking audiences will certainly benefit from her news judgment and work ethic.”

Two additional hires include Will Hildebrant as vice president of sales and Nestor Alvarenga

WZDC Telemundo will be operated by WRC-TV, the NBC owned station in Washington D.C., through a local marketing agreement, beginning January 1, 2018 until the Telemundo Station Group and ZGS close on their transaction. Once that occurs a channel-sharing agreement between WZDC and WRC-TV goes into effect. WZDC Telemundo will be co-located with WRC.
