A couple of Tegna’s Texas stations have new general managers.

Tim Thomas will join KWES, the NBC affiliate in Midland-Odessa, as president and general manager. Thomas comes from WXIA, the Tegna station in Atlanta, Ga. where he was station operations manager. In his role there, he increased local on-air and digital programming. He begins Feb. 11.

“Tim has proven time and again an exceptional ability to create innovative solutions to meet business goals while never losing sight of our shared purpose to serve the greater good of our communities,” said Bruce Cummings, vice president, media operations for TEGNA. “His commitment, strategic thinking and innovative leadership make him a great choice to lead the talented team at NewsWest 9.”

In Beaumont, longtime news director Paul Bergen will be promoted to president and vice president of KBMT-KJAC, the ABC-NBC duopoly. Bergen has been with the station since 2008.

Prior to joining Tegna he held leadership positions in Louisiana and Montana. He replaces Bruce Cummings, who recently relocated to Corpus Christi to lead KIII. Cummings also oversees several additional Tegna stations.

Bergen will start his new role Feb. 4.
