Susan Roesgen is an Emmy award winning reporter who has served as a general assignment correspondent for CNN since 2005. Probably her most famous assignment, though, came on April 15, 2009.
Roesgen was in Chicago covering a “tea party” protest when she engaged in a heated on-camera exchange with a conservative demonstrator.
According to a transcript of the live broadcast, Ms. Roesgen told the protester, “Sir, what does this have to do with taxes? . . . Did you know that [Illinois] gets $50 billion out of the stimulus? That’s $50 billion for this state, sir.” Ms. Roesgen then told CNN anchor Kyra Phillips, “Uh, it’s anti-government, anti-CNN, since this is highly promoted by the right-wing conservative network, Fox.”
Yesterday TVNewser reported that Roesgen’s contract will not be renewed and she will be leaving the network. When TVNewser asked whether Roesgen’s comments at the Chicago tea party rally had anything to do with her not being renewed, a CNN spokesperson said, “I can’t comment on personnel matters.”
Before joining CNN, Roesgen was a prime time anchor at five TV stations, including WABC-TV, New York.
