Surprising Orlando’s WFTV, Investor Ditches Spanish Station

In a surprise to WFTV-Channel 9, the primary investor has dropped out of Spanish-language station WAWA, which was to be placed on a WFTV digital “subchannel.”

The investor effectively pulled the plug on the operation, causing nine people to lose their jobs.

“The key investor decided the economic landscape was not strong enough to launch a new Hispanic station,” WFTV General Manager Shawn Bartelt said Thursday. More…
