A recent study by the Pew Research Hispanic Center says more Spanish speakers are getting their news in English.
That’s good news for local TV stations since the number of Spanish speaking adults who choose television as their main source of news in 2012 is a whopping 86%, a number that’s down from 92% in 2006.
While the number of Hispanic adults surveyed in 2012 who said they got at least some of their news in English held steady at 82% from 2010, the number who chose Spanish language news declined from 76% in 2010 to 68% in 2012.
Another statistic for local TV to ponder is that the survey shows slightly more than eight of every ten Hispanics keep up with the news “a lot” or “some.” Though 42% say English-language media do a “good job” covering news relevant to Hispanics in the US, only 17% say they do an “excellent” job.
