Steve Langford Retiring as WAVE VP-GM

WAVE vice president and general manager Steve Langford announced to staff last week that he will be retiring.

Langford, 58, has been WAVE’s VP-GM for the past 13 years. He began with the Louisville NBC-affiliate in 1978 as a sales representative.

The surprise announcement comes as WAVE completes one of its worst ratings periods in station history, finishing a distant 3rd in every local news time period in which it competes with WHAS and WLKY.

In announcing his retirement last week, Langford said that it was “a hard decision” but “the right time.”

In addition to his executive duties, Langford regularly appeared on-air providing news commentary for WAVE’s “Hot Button” editorial segment.
