A fire at Heritage Broadcasting’s former home in Traverse City, Mich., took down the transmitter and knocked WWTV off the air.
It happened Aug. 31 around noon. The station is still not back on air.
“Firefighters got here early Friday morning and they actually had to tear down a lot of the building just to get at the flames. For decades this is where we brought you the news, it’s where you let so many familiar faces into you homes night after night and for all of us here, this was more than a building,” the station said in a statement on its website.
The building, where the CBS affiliate began, is a total loss. Over the next week, station employees will talk about their favorite memories in that building.
As of Sunday, engineers are working to restore programming. Right now, viewers can watch via the livestream.
