After 20 years at KHOU, sports anchor Butch Alsandor is leaving the Houston CBS affiliate “to try something new.”

“It’s my decision to leave the station. I’ve been thinking for quite a while that I’d like to try something new, and now, after 20 solid years, this seems like the time to go ahead with that,” Alsandor said. “I’ve had a great run over these past two decades, made lots of friends both at the station and across the community. And I look forward to many more interesting things to come.”

Alsandor joined KHOU in 1993 and was promoted to weekday sports anchor in 2009.

“Even after all these years, he’s still enthusiastic about the job and the people he covers. Whatever he does next, we know he’ll bring those special qualities with him,” executive news director Phil Bruce said in a statement. “Beyond being a true professional, he’s a very decent guy. And we’ll miss him.”
