Some Sports Fans Shut Out After Problems With WGMB’s Signal

Sports fans in Baton Rouge, La. had a hard time watching the last two games of the World Series and the New Orleans Saints game over the weekend.

The Fox affiliate WGMB had an unspecified problem with its signal. Baton Rouge experienced heavy rains over the weekend.

The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports the problem started Saturday morning. Both DirecTV and Dish Network subscribers were affected.

“We’re very sorry for the broadcast disruption this weekend,” the station wrote on Facebook. “We are aware of the situation and are working as fast as possible to get FOX44 and NBC33 back up. We believe the bad weather is to blame. Again, we’re sorry for the issue and we have a team of engineers working to fix it.”

NBC affiliate WVLA was also affected by the issue.

About an hour ago, the station posted an update on facebook:

We appreciate the continued patience of those affected by our outage.
We could not have a tower crew work on our transmitter until the weather cleared up making it safe enough for them to do so.
We are continuing to work on the situation and will have the station returned to air as soon as possible.

The Times-Picayune says Saints fans were already steamed with the Baton Rouge Fox affiliate after it cut away from last week’s game against the Colts.

We asked WGMB for comment but haven’t heard back.
