Social Media Fail: Louisville Anchor Ripped for Caitlyn Jenner/American Pharoah Joke

By Kevin Eck

On Sunday, WAVE anchor John Boel posted what he called a “farcical analogy” to his facebook page, trying to compare Triple Crown winner American Pharoah to Caitlyn Jenner.

“Day after greatest athletic accomplishment since the 70’s, American Pharoah announces he’s going to become a filly, changing name to American Phoebe.
SI gets the photo shoot instead of Vanity Fair. Diane Sawyer will not get the exclusive interview.
But seriously, don’t you wish horses could talk? What do you think Pharoah would say after smashing the field again wire to wire?”

Most of his facebook fans didn’t think it was funny. “This is very disappointing,” wrote one. “Why can’t we just be kind?” While another wrote in part, “It’s easy to say something is ‘just a joke’ when it doesn’t affect you. Your lack of consideration and compassion is absolutely appalling.”

Boel tried to backpedal, “Ok sorry,” he wrote. “Bruce is one of my favorite athletes of all time and I laughed right along with Jenner in the riveting Sawyer interview, but let me reword the Q for those I offended with farcical analogy: 2 biggest stories of the month are Jenner and Pharoah. What do you think Pharoah would say to Diane Sawyer if she had the exclusive and he could express himself?”

We asked Raycom for comment. We’ll update when we hear back.
