Snow Storm Strands WEWS Live Truck

By Andrew Gauthier

Reporting on a snow storm sweeping through the Cleveland area on Friday, WEWS reporter Josh Boose and photojournalist Dave Hatala were stranded on the side of a highway when the raised mast of their live truck froze.

Due to snow and driving winds, the WEWS news crew was only able to raise the mast 15 feet, when it normally goes up to 40 feet in the air, according to a post on the station’s website.  After reporting live during WEWS’s morning newscast, Boose and Hatala were unable to fully retract the mast because snow had melted and refroze inside.

After working on the situation for a couple of hours, Hatala was finally able to coax the mast down enough so that the truck could be driven back to the station.
